Health and the long game: stress, sleep, food and pain

Training is one input. Sleep, stress, food, pain and mental health decide what that input can do. This topic covers all of it, including how to train around an injury rather than stop, and what to do when the problem is not the program at all.

You cannot out-train a nervous system that never switches off, and a program written for a body that slept nine hours is the wrong program for a body that slept five.

These articles cover nervous system hygiene, simplifying nutrition when life is busy, strength training through menopause, and how to get mental health support when you have never asked for it before. Physiotherapy, osteopathy and psychology all run at the Virtus address, so the rehab page is the right next step if the thing in your way is pain rather than motivation.

Questions people ask

Health and the long game, answered.

Can I train with an injury?

Usually yes, with the program adjusted around it. Because everyone runs their own program in a Session capped at eight, working around a shoulder or a knee does not mean sitting out.

Is there allied health at Virtus?

Yes. Physiotherapy, osteopathy and psychology practise at the Virtus address in Mornington. You can see each practitioner and book with them directly from the rehab page.

Is the health information in older posts still current?

Treat archive posts as a record of what we thought at the time. Health information, services and links change, and anything clinical should be checked with a qualified professional.

Strength that supports the rest of your life.

Virtus is for people who want to move well and stay capable for decades, not for six weeks. Coaching starts from where you are.
