Simple Doesn't Mean Easy

The Simple Series · Part 12 of 12

Most of the things we've talked about in this series are straightforward.

Move regularly. Eat well. Make time for recovery. Pay attention to people. Keep doing things that matter to you.

Knowing that doesn't make it easy to do.

You've still got work, responsibilities, habits and days when you have very little left to give. A useful plan needs to account for those things.

So how do you do the simple things well?

Choose one thing. Start with something that would make a meaningful difference. Give it enough attention to become part of your life before adding more.

Make it specific. "Look after myself" is a good intention. "Go for a walk after lunch" gives you something to do.

Make room for it. Put it in your week. Prepare what you need. Make getting started a little easier.

Have a smaller version. Decide what's realistic on a busy day. Twenty minutes might fit when an hour won't.

Get some support. Ask a coach. Make a plan with a mate. Tell someone what you're working on.

Pay attention and adjust. Notice what helps, what gets in the way and whether the effort is taking you somewhere you care about.

At Virtus, Better Every Day is a direction. There's room for imperfect weeks, changing plans and starting again.

You don't have to get all of this right today.

Pick one simple thing. Give yourself a fair chance to do it well. Build from there.

You might already know what you want to change. The hard part is making it work in your actual life.

That's where we can help.

At Virtus, we get to know you, help you find a starting point and build a plan around what matters to you. We coach you through it, pay attention and adjust as you go.

You'll have someone to ask, people to train alongside and a clearer idea of what comes next.

You don't need to get fitter or more confident before you walk through the door.
