Good Training Is Simple

The Simple Series · Part 3 of 12

You can change exercises every week, track every number and finish every session exhausted without getting much closer to your goal.

Good training starts with a question: what do you want to be able to do?

Get stronger. Play your sport. Keep up with your kids. Have the capacity to say yes to more things.

The answer gives your training a purpose.

From there, choose work that supports it. Practise it regularly. Give yourself enough challenge to improve and enough recovery to keep going.

Stick with it long enough to learn something. Adjust based on how you're responding.

At Virtus, we're building lifelong athletes. That means your training needs to work within your actual life, including the weeks when work is busy, sleep is average and motivation is low.

Some days you'll have more to give. Other days, a shorter session will be the right call. Both can belong in a good program.

There's value in getting better at the basics. You don't need a new exercise every time you walk through the door.

Know why you're training. Do the work. Recover. Come back.
