Get to know James in under 10 minutes! Then, when you're done; tune into the main episode

Like most of our wonderful guests, its difficult to distil the complexity of a wonderful human into a small blurb. If you're already sold, listen or watch the episode and you'll get to know James much better than we could ever write in a few sentences.

James is one of our wonderful members here at Virtus. A man who has tried his hand at a number of university degrees, having recently embarked on his masters degree in Counselling. After a recent move to the other side of the country, a European adventure and a decision to relocate back home (and back to Virtus), it was a pleasure to sit down with James to chat about who he is, what he values and what he wants to do moving forward!

James is someone who is making the world a better place everyday through genuine connection, one not to miss.

Alright James, we've just spent an hour together chatting about all things you, but now it's time to dive a little deeper, maybe a little deeper, and get some quick fire 30 questions. You ready? I'm ready to overthink, yeah. Good. Don't overthink. Any nicknames? Nicknames? Snags. Snags? Where'd that come from? Do you want the story or is it quick fire? Go. I was playing cricket during the club and they would cook sausages on a Thursday night for a feed. They were $2.50. I didn't want to pay. No one was eating them, so the treasurer said, "Alright, they're free."

I ate like six sausages in. It wasn't quick, but it was like five minutes. That's a good nickname. I like that. One of the players was like, "If the story goes, ask any of the guys there. They'll say he's eaten 60 snags in three minutes." So, snags. Snags. Good snags. What are your favourite foods? Snags. Well, we spoke about it before. Lollies. Yeah, that's true. But, I love a good pizza. What's your go-to pizza? Oh, that's a great question. There's a potato, red onion, full-card pizza from Mr. Smokestack in Carrum that I love. Filthy pizza. Favourite movies?

Country Bears. What? Country Bears. You can put it on the telly for Billy and Luce and they'll love it. What was the other one? Funny one. Telegator Nights, of course. Bit of Will Ferrell stuff is always good. Favourite music? Depends on my mood. From coming to gym, it's heavy, heavy stuff. Minimal bangers. But, if I'm feeling the yin, it's a bit of Ronan Keating and a bit of soft stuff. Ronan Keating. Jesus Christ. When you say nothing at all, it's the favourite. Favourite books? Well, I said satellite of not giving a fuck is probably the main one, but there's too many to pick from.

Favourite podcast? Is that a loaded question? No, self praise. You're not allowed to say Virtus podcast because that has been a consistent answer, which we appreciate. Well, sorry, this isn't my favourite. The Imperfects podcast is. Very good. Kind of dinner? What food are you going to cook for me? Are you vegetarian or vegan? No. Okay. I have to ask that because my brother's vegan, so you've got to consider those things. Yep. Or, I would ask you what you would want. That's cute. I would like tacos. That's easy. You can come in whenever you want. Pick three people to join us for dinner, alive or dead, who would you invite to have some tacos with us?

For some reason, I've always wanted to have Jim Carrey at dinner. Yep. Good. I enjoy some of his world views and just his comedy. Robin Williams. I'm ready to go in, coach. Just give me a chance. Here you go. Okay. We love that. We do. Robin Williams. Yep. We love that. Poor. Third person, probably my par. Love that. Favourite place in the world? My bed. Good. Dream travel destination, so somewhere you haven't been, if you could go anywhere. I've lost the travel bug. Yeah? I've just been away for six months. Yeah, you've just gone back. I'm ready just to do nothing.

You just want to stay here? Nah. The dream is to do the US when things calm down. I'd love to see all the ... When? If. If. This place might be on fire before it calms down. If you could teach everyone in the world one thing, what would it be? Three. Four. That every ... This is, sorry, three things. That every human just wants to be loved, heard, and understood. Cute. That's a good one. I really like that. Perfect day off, what does it look like? I don't know. Depends on my mood. If I'm feeling sad, I just shut the curtains and lie in a dark room.

Just play some Enya. Yeah. But it could just be go for a walk with a dog, swim, nice brekkie, just chill. Love that. All right. A couple of firsts. First car? A Holden Commodore. Did you name it? I did not. Disappointing. First job? Oh, first job. What do you mean with dad at one of his warehouses? I can't remember. First team you played for? World sport. Doesn't matter. First team. The memory would have been cricket in New Zealand when I lived there for three years. You didn't get into that in the podcast? No, I did not.

Somewhere in Mount Eden, I played Cornwall Cricket Club. That's it. Love that. First concert? I don't go to concerts often, and my first one was Ed Sheeran, and I didn't enjoy it. Sorry, people. Disappointing. First team you followed? First team I followed. Wow. It's footy. It's Collingwood. Love that. Dream concert? If anyone in the world, like alive or dead, there's got to be someone that you just jump at the opportunity to go see. I really wanted to go see Ziggy Albert, so I know he's been touring lately, but I haven't had a chance. What did your pet hate?

Pet hate? Oh, when people say they're busy, that drives me up the wall. Maybe they are. Maybe they've got shit on. Oh, don't start me. When have you failed and learned from it? I want a specific example. When have I failed and learned from it? In my first relationship, I think there was a lot of failings from that, and I've learned from it to be a more empathetic and understanding person and partner. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to play cricket for Australia. Good. What's your worst habit?

Mum would probably say I bite my nails. I don't know, actually, my worst habit. I'll just go bite my nails. I'm a pretty perfect guy. What do you wish every vertice member knew? Four. I don't know. Nothing comes to my head. Come on, give me something. Well, the first thing that comes to my head is that everyone just wants to be loved, heard and understood. Well, you can reflect on the same thing. That's okay. What are the two most used apps on your phone? Recently, it's probably either Messages or FaceTime to speak to my partner, since she's not here.

Yep. They're probably the FaceTime... And the Sky Scanner app, looking for flights to be... Yeah, literally. What's your most controversial opinion on Pitchforks? Controversial opinion? Um... Don't be vanilla. Not the time to be vanilla. Yeah, it's probably that everyone has a choice, I think. What are you currently watching? I don't watch a lot of stuff. Yeah? No, my go-to, if I'm feeling a bit flat, is just a bit of stupid family guy stuff. Good. What do you suck at? A lot of things. Everything. What's your favourite quote? Four. Put me on the spot, there. It's okay not to be understood.

I don't think that's a quote. That's just something I live by. Oh, like that. Do you have a morning routine? Yeah. 5am. In lightness. Huh? In lightness. 5am wake up. I do 10 deep breaths. And then get up, walk the dog, come back. Get ready for my morning dip at the beach. Come back and then brekkie and days away. Perfect. What's the most impactful piece of advice you've been given? Jesus. Well, probably from Psychety, another plug, that every conversation or book or experience you have, you will always take a nugget of gold from it. Love that.

Why do you want to be a counsellor? To help people understand that they are loved, heard and understood. Good. Who in your world would make a great guest for this podcast? Psychety. Good. I'll have to get him on. Last question. What happens when we die? We're dead. And on that note, attaboy. Have a good day.

The podcast is the philosophy. The floor is where it happens.
