So Darren Murr we've just had you on for a full episode so it's been a while since I've wanted to get you on so we've been waiting the whole footy season we've finally done it and it has lived up to my expectations. Phenomenal chat so go check that out if you haven't already but this is a little condensed version of our chat this is the quickfire 30 so we've got 30 ish questions here. Can you remind me that it's condensed? This could be longer than the actual episode. This could be the first quickfire 30 that goes for an hour and ten.

Oh yeah. 30 questions. Let's go. Do. Any nicknames? No Murr, Murr. Boring. Although bowling ball has been given to me by Mitch downstairs. Cube ball, chrome dome. Chrome dome whatever so we'll give Mitch a shout out for cube ball bowling ball whatever he wants to call me. What are your favorite foods? Thai. Nice. And anything in particular? What protein do you like with your tyre? A pretty basic chicken generally unless we're going a Musselman beef. Yep. Favorite movies? I'm gonna really dumb the world down here and I love all the Batman stuff massively into that. Fast and Furious I'll watch over and over and over again.

To me movies are just an escape, a route out of life to sit back and enjoy so yeah Batman all the modern Batman stuff I love and Fast and the Furious if you talk to our family we just we do that all the time. You look like Vin Diesel yourself actually. Yeah I can drive like him too. You're stronger than him. Yeah don't know about that. Favorite, sorry I just said favorite movies. Favorite music? Yeah don't don't have a genre or necessarily a band. I'll go back to my youth I was a massive INXS, Noiseworks, Chibi Barnes, Cold Jizzle fan growing up.

Good. But I will say coming into Virtus Mitch he's nearly got me across the country and I really quite enjoy some of his country playlists. I'll pretend I didn't hear that one. Favorite books? Belonging. Who's that by? Never heard of it. He's, I can't remember his names, he's a sports psychologist who worked with the All Blacks. That's really bad, really bad but my attention to detail has never been great but yeah there's only a recent one. Join the club. Favorite podcasts? Virtus. Good answer. Finding Mastery, Michael Gervais and the Rich Roll podcast. Very good. So I'm coming over for dinner joining Neil and Michelle and Darce.

What are you cooking me? Us. Depends what night you come because we are a little bit routine like that but but if you're coming over. Especially not I'm coming. You're coming over. I would be I would be chucking a massive Tomahawk steak on the barbie. Good. Everyone's giving me that answer and I really appreciate it too because I love steak. Pick three other people to join us for that dinner. I would love to have Nelson Mandela there. Ricky Ponting, big fan of Ricky Ponting and Phil Jackson. Favorite place in the world? Mornington Peninsula. Beautiful and dream travel destination.

You can go anywhere. I've got to think of where Michelle wants to go. I think this is really important. You know what? Depends on what the experience is but for us it's laying on a beach reading a book and having a cocktail so I'll go to the Maldives. Nice. Have you been? No. If you could teach everyone in the world one thing what would it be? Be good to yourself. Good. Perfect day off. What are you doing? What does it look like? A walk along the beach, a coffee, a good breakfast, a swim at the beach.

Good. First car? First car. Here we go. Excellent and first job? Maccas. Nice. First sporting team? Plate four. Plate four or supported? Supported and local I understand this. When you're born a Collingwood supporter you literally come out with a tattoo on your forehead so I'm a die-hard pie. It's heartbreaking. But plate four police and citizens union footy club. What was your first concert? INXS. Yeah. Kick Tour. The night before my VC English exam. How good is that? That shows you how committed I was to study. How'd you go on the exam? Not great. I passed but not great.

I was just proud that I got it done. As long as you passed. Dream concert. You can see anyone. A live or dead? You know what I'd actually love to see INXS now. That's weird and and this this actually this links back into the main episode of the podcast. I would love to go and see Frank Sinatra at Vegas. How does that link back into the main episode? My senior, my coach, my coach at Junior Footy was a massive Frank Sinatra fan. Okay. This is not quickfire 30 but I'm going to do it anyway. My first big drinking experience with him as an 18 year old was standing on his back deck sculling cans singing My Way.

It's one of the best quickfire 30 answers we've ever had. What is your pet hate? Excuses. Good. Which teams and sports do you follow? So outside of Collingwood? I follow the Chicago Bulls in the NBA. I will say loosely man you in the EPL but only because my mate and he's brainwashed my son so I sort of get get dragged into that. I love watching the All Blacks play. That aside I'm a footy nut. I'm an Australian rules footy nut and no one's been able to convince me that there's a game better in the world so I really do struggle to to buy in to other sports for that reason.

Yeah. When have you failed and learned from it? Most of my failures that I learned from happened when I was younger and I didn't learn from it till about 10 years ago. I think we've touched on a few of those. Yeah this could be real listen to the podcast. Yeah I think it is a little bit. When I was younger and not and not really showing up and investing in doing stuff whatever that stuff whether it be work whether it be sport whatever that may be and reflecting on that as you get a little wiser. Yeah.

What did you want to do when you were a kid? Play footy. Young kid. Yeah and it was it was such it's a stereotype. And as you said there's no plan B. No there was no plan B. There was no plan B but that and to be reflective now it's you are who you are because of what you did and I'm not not unhappy now. Worst habit do you have any bad habits? What gives Michelle the shits that you do? That'd be an episode in and of itself. I'm stubborn as hell. Really stubborn to a T yeah and and pretty opinionated.

I think Michelle can call me out on that if I've missed something but they're two things that come to mind. I'll be asking Michelle I'll be following up. What do you wish every Virtus member knew? Life will be okay. What are the two most used apps on your phone? Outlook sadly and but believe it or not it's probably Traneroic. Good answer. You said you were opinionated what is your most controversial opinion? Roll some people up at home. The funny thing is I'm opinionated to the point where I just have a belief and and I'm happy to talk about it.

I'm not a controversial person but I don't have one for you sorry. What are you currently listening to? That's a very broad answer that could be a book a podcast music what do you listen to? No currently listening to Michael Gervais the Finding Mastery podcast. That's a bit of a religion and I'll just throw music on whatever it may be now. Inside footy season the car is pretty quiet. It's a thinking place but now it's just music whatever at a whim. Yeah really value just turning down the radio and just having a bit of silence and yeah yeah this is your episode.

What are you currently watching? Not a lot I don't have a lot of control. Actually I better be careful here. During footy season it is every show to do with football that that can go on so I have a fair bit of control during winter but once that stops TV isn't a thing for me. I'm desperately waiting for the next Ted Lasso series to come out desperately hanging in there for that for series 3. Ask if Michelle will tell me they liked a bit of Love Island or Married at First Side or one of those reality shows.

So Michelle is into all of that stuff Kardashians whatever and it's it's a really great way to disconnect from the TV when you walk past and see that stuff on. I can't stand it mate so I'm glad you're in the same boat as me. What do you suck at? I suck at golf. I'm really not great at golf which is why I'm not going to the golf day. I suck at singing. No I don't need to prove it. I know that. That's a fact. Yeah that'll do. Do you have a favourite quote? No I don't. I don't.

I you know I really I've sort of like like a look at me like an idiot because he's been watching the stuff that I feed into the the online Facebook group over the years to try it this year to have it have a theme but I I don't tend to look at what other people say in and do too much so although as so if I'm going on this year's believe. Let's just say I bet it's a Ted Lasso believe. Do you have a morning routine? Yes wake up and turn the coffee machine on. I hope you have a big drink of water before you have your coffee.

You will love this before I get from the bedroom to the bottom of my stairs my drink bottle is empty. Good. That's a decent size. That's a good 600 700ml. So that's so I wake up I'll have a mouthful I'll go and do the other stuff in the bathroom and then walk downstairs drinking that turn the coffee machine on by the time I start making that's empty. Brilliant. Brilliant that makes me really happy. That makes me happy coach. What is your most impactful piece of advice? Show up. Yeah. Show up and do the work. Yeah good things don't happen if you don't show up and do the work.

Why are you a coach? I'll try that because I can't play anymore. No that that is a that's that's a longer answer but if I can try and boil it down and condense it is I have a real strong connection with helping people be better. Helping people find whatever it is that is important to them. Helping them feel connected. Yeah it really is that. I know I know a bit about this sport and I and I have a fair a fair amount of confidence that I can connect enough with people to help them find more in themselves to give more of themselves to other people.

It's convoluted I know but it that's really the whole thing for me that whole connection doing stuff together being a part of something bigger than you I can't participate anymore but I and I said this to Locke I think once before I genuinely believe everything I went through with playing was to set me up to coach. Everything happens for a reason. Yep. Yep. Who in your world, make a great guess for the podcast. Who in my world. I would love to I would love to hear my son go through this. Yes. I don't get more than two weeks for anything.

Do you give as much? I actually think he would. I really do. He's he's a pretty insightful kid and he's pretty little level-headed. It would just be interesting to hear him navigate a conversation like this. Let's make it happen. He'll be listening so Darth let's make it happen. Finally Darren what happens when we die? I think our body dies. Yeah what what happens to the good bit of us? I don't I don't really really know but I like to think that the people that are important to me that are no longer here are still guiding me so.

Very good answer. Thank you very much. Welcome.

The podcast is the philosophy. The floor is where it happens.
