Hey guys, welcome to the Virtus Performance Podcast. This is another one of our little Be Better series where I speak for a couple of minutes just about little ways we can improve anything, day to day in our lives. Something that we can do to make ourselves better. This isn't going to be me sitting here and preaching, it's going to be me giving you guys ideas that I'm trying to implement in my life to improve everything. Whether it be my relationships, whether it be work, study, all of those kind of things. So one of the things I wanted to talk about today was a simple word called intent.
And I guess it's pretty simple for me, intent is about doing what you set out to do and ensuring that when you do it, you do it well. That might be training, it might be spending a lunch time with your partner, it might be what you do at work, it might be a task, it might be anything. It's something that if you set aside time to do it or if you're committed to do something, it's making sure that you put everything into it. And I guess for me it's mostly when I hear intent, it's about
making myself present in the moment, whether it be at work or training or whatever and making sure that everything you do is done as well as you can do it. We'll use a training example for a second. I use a term that all reps are not created equal and you might be doing say five reps of a back squat and if you're four reps in and you're just kind of going through the motions, it's really easy just to move through the range of motion, back up, back down and just go through the motions. But if
we really want to get the most out of that single rep, controlling through the movement, pausing at the bottom, driving up fast as we can on the way up allows us to actually move with intent and allows our body to actually go, "Holy shit, that was tough and I've got to adapt to that," which is all training is. I use training as an example because that's simple, it's something that's really, really easy to understand but every repetition of everything you do in life, I want you guys for the next week and hopefully forever to try and make sure that you put everything into it.
For me, doing your job with pride, doing training with pride, moving with pride, whatever you spend your time doing, do the best you can and it's really, really simple. Yeah, that's it. Thanks for listening. Be excellent.
